Leaders depend on a certain set of principles and characteristics to reach their positions. But each manager reaches a moment in time when his performance degrades and fails.
Very few know why or how to avoid it.
Perhaps, the answer is with the principles we live by.
Formulated from the past successful leaders, they are the key components of our success and happiness at work and leadership.
At a time when your are surrounded by everything newer and better, it is occasionally nice to stop and recall some of the ancient knowledge that humanity has gained through the centuries.
If we stick to evergreen ideals, they can take us through the worst and most difficult periods of work and life. Just as they had done for our past generations.
The list of words may seem time-consuming at first look. Still, you can value the accumulated wisdom within each letter. Each one built over the last countless years. This only goes to show their permanent worth.
When you go beyond their familiarity, you will realise why they endure so long.
For everyone of us, the list may be different according to your experience. Still, you cannot deny each one or more of the principles below will echo with you:
1. There is no free lunch if you want anything in life.
Too frequently we seek reward and achievement without failure or risk. But you can not have a goal unless you go on a journey. And every journey in life and leadership can cost you – time, patience, and discipline investments along every step of the way.
2. Self-change does not change the environment.
Sometimes, you have no option but to bit the bullet to receive whatever life sends you. The essential trick when something occurs out of expectation is to put on a brave face and soldier on. Meet the best scenario that you have to offer. Nothing more or less that you can do.
3. Every successful leadership narrative is full with hardship.
Failure is common with sprinkles of success in life, as well as leadership. This is because life itself is about leadership in self, others, and surroundings. It does not imply that you are not failing, just because you are fighting. Every great achievement calls for a good sort of fight. Muster your problems and your disappointments to snowball into inspirations and drive in you. Remember, the real measure of your success is how often you can rebound from failure.
4. Weak attitude comes with character deficiency.
It is a hard climb to quality and maintenance in all that we do. Only a sudden slip that it does not take long to make a temporary drop in the standard we uphold as permanent. That applies to your character. A wrong step in a leadership journey of right decision might cost you an arm and a leg. Do not accept excuses or allow yourself to fall into mediocre.
5. Losing can rediscover yourself.
Even the incorrect decisions can turn out right in the end. You must first remove your aversion to being mistaken. When all you do is being creative and effective in life. In the darkest hours, you can keep sight of the lessons to be learned. Savor your moments of grace to taste the success that you will not find anywhere else.
6. Positivity and negativity drive themselves.
Optimism depends on your attitude. In turn, your inner state's manifests outward with positive outlook. If you maintain a positive perspective, in any circumstance, you fill your life with purpose, meaning, and energy.
7. Benefit yourself when you help others.
Human life's goal is to serve. We exhibit compassion and good will to assist others. Successful individuals are constantly searching for methods of helping others instead of asking "What is there for me?"
8. A plan is a development.
As the adage goes, you plan to fail if you fail to plan. Outcomes must be documented and pointed out when you need a realistic, measurable, precise objective. Learning to establish the right objectives is a skill that you can practise and acquire.
9. You can control attitude and not things.
Although you can not control much, you can manage your attitude to these occurrences. Instead of allowing it to dominate you, you will master change when you take control.
10. Spending time is the key to investing in it.
Time is everything that truly belongs to us. So consider your time as a valuable and non-renewable resource. Save it and use it carefully. Appreciate each minute you have in your hand. Cut out idleness. Avoid sloth. No delay is worth your time. If utilise your experience properly, nothing is a waste of time.
11. Determination gets you through anything.
If things are hard, you must be tougher. Refuse to give up, make sure you work hard and keep at it till things get better. Replace your worries about what else may be wrong with optimism as to what might be right. Keep on going.
12. You are the only one accountable for your achievement.
Reach your best self. Your place in this world is to live your goal. Be brave when you go through life. Recall that all the big accomplishments need time. Be patient along the way.
13. Treating everyone decently and not equally
Teams and people will include individuals with various styles, talents, circumstances as well as requirements. Understand and match the person with your assistance and guidance. The popular saying about treating people as you like to be treated can be misleading. It is challenging to treat people as you want. They do not necessarily desire that!
14. Be efficient and courteous
Everyone is keen assist you to be the best you can be. It is vital that you build a total that is greater than the parts. Recall this point when you relate to others. If individuals truly appreciate the each other's variety of personalities, we all can feel committed and caring for one another. Amazing things can happen.
15. Avoid doing work for others
Probably you are good at a specific skill. Much like everyone has a unique ability. Thus, you can get the best job because you are very effective and enthusiastic about the area you work in. It may be tough to learn to let others find their own method of resolving issues. Let go and not interfere when people slipped once a while. Rather than fighting your urge to interfere and rescue the outcome, train and coach people to leap past mistakes to do better in future.
In summary, we must lead ourselves from within throughout our lives. We are the best captain to navigate our own ship of life. Tap into our business and leadership values to bring us long lasting success and pleasure.
